Just read that article. Based on the comments on that site, Jonathan Kent seems to be the most popular choice that fans are speculating about. Some suggested Jor-El or Lex Luthor. I doubt it'd be Luthor but I could see either of the other two possibilities.

Problem though. We know Jor-El will die if he's even in the film, but will it really be necessary to kill off Jonathan Kent?! Please, folks, you really wanna do something different this time around?! How about keeping the Kents ALIVE then for a change?! Like John Byrne did & also Lois & Clark! Smallville appeared to be going that route until that train wreck SINGERMAN interfered! Then John Schneider got the axe! So keep the Kents alive! And how about not having them extremely old & decrepit for a change?! Ya know one thing that was really 'irking' a few years ago? We had Martha Kent in Singerman portrayed as 'one foot in the grave & the other foot on a banana peel'! On Smallville we had the much younger Annette O'Toole! Now what's wrong with this picture?!

If the kents are in film I def want them alive and well while clark is an adult and superman for while. Then maybe do something with one of them dying in a sequel. That was one aspect I liked in lois and clark with kents alive. And we got to see clark be with his family and that dynamic there. If he isn't kent, perry would be a solid choice to see him tackle. Though I did just read up on costner he doesn't like to do sequels/haven't done sequels to any of his films. So if they went for a role like perry/jonahthan kent(no death) would he return for sequel?

Now Kellvin has spoken to his well-placed sources and we can report that Kevin Costner is none other than the Daddy of Superman himself: Jonathan "Pa" Kent.

So, major props to our Melissa Molina for accurately forecasting the role. And FINALLY a Kevin Costner movie I'm interested in seeing. That's right, I thought "Company Men" was too white-to-blue-collar whiny.

Because we know what's under the white collar: Blue spandex.

It's funny, I see that Snyder seems to be running with the idea of younger Kent parents. Although SV hardly invented the concept, they sure have popularized it. One wonders if that's where Snyder got his inspiration for Costner. I do see similarities in type between Costner and Schneider. Hmm.

News seems like it broke about a half hour ago and yet nary a peep over on the Younis page. Maybe chasing away half of his staff wasn't such a good idea... However, we know that Smallville killed off Jonathan Kent to appease Bryan Singer & that Singerman crap-fest! Puh-leazzzzeeee! For once, let the Kents live, both of 'em, not just Martha. Like it was in Lois & Clark Remember, Snyder, reboot! And when John Byrne 'rebooted', he let the Kents live! And besides, who wants Costner in just the first few minutes of the film like Glenn Ford was?! What sense would that make?!

Updated materials and maybe some "snazzy" seams and such, but it will be the Superman suit we all WANT to see.

What sense would it make to cast an actor like Marlon Brando as Jor-El, only to have him killed by, what, the 15 minute mark?

Mind you, I'm not saying the Kents should die. In fact, I'd prefer they stay alive too. Partly that's because I love the Byrne Age version and partly it's because I'm sick of Donner's concept of only killing Jonathan.

But mostly I want both Kent parents to live because DC killed Jonathan just a couple of years ago just to be in line with the movie continuity and I'd love to see them squirm at trying to line their piece of shit Sucky Origin-based Superman up with the reboot. Good luck, you miserable fucks! You're gonna need it!

Kevin Costner Cast as Jonathan Kent in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ Upcoming Superman Movie

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Kevin Costner will play Jonathan Kent, the father who raised Clark Kent as his own son, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder.

Snyder stated, “Jonathan Kent is the only father figure Clark has ever had, the man who was there to help Clark understand what he was meant to do in the world as Superman. Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest super hero of all time.”

Costner will star alongside Diane Lane, who plays his wife, Martha, and the film’s star, Henry Cavill, who will play the new Clark Kent/Superman.

Costner most recently starred in 2010’s “The Company Men,” and is currently in development on the comedy “The One.” He has won two Academy Awards®, for producing and directing the epic “Dances with Wolves,” also garnering a nomination for Best Actor. He has also starred in a wide range of memorable films, including “The Untouchables,” “No Way Out,” “Bull Durham,” “Field of Dreams,” “JFK,” “The Bodyguard,” “Wyatt Earp,” “Tin Cup” and “Swing Vote,” to name a few.
